...and all for a fantastic cause
Celestial Seasonings unveiled a signature dress made from... get this...its tea packaging, in an overall effort to raise awareness of and provide education about the risk of heart disease among women. One in three women in the United States dies of heart disease, which affects more females than the next seven leading causes of death combined, including breast cancer. The Red Dress has been nationally recognized as the symbol of awareness for this cause since its debut in 2003.
Fashion designer Brett Cooper crafted the signature piece as a dynamic re-interpretation of the red dress, a wardrobe favorite and the inspiration for the current icon used to elevate awareness of heart disease among women.
Cooper assembled the dress's bodice from boxes of Celestial Seasonings new Vanilla Rose Decaf and Black Cherry Pomegranate Black Teas. The new teas feature art with women wearing red dresses and provide educational information about women's risk of heart disease. Both teas are made with all-natural ingredients including heart-healthy black tea. (Research shows that drinking just two cups of black tea daily provides as many heart-healthy antioxidants as one serving of fruit or vegetables and may reduce LDL, or "bad" cholesterol, a major risk factor for heart disease. So drink LOTS of black tea, ladies!)
The nice folks at Celestial Seasonings have pledged a portion of the proceeds from the sale of the new teas to WomenHeart: the National Coalition for Women with Heart Disease, the nation's only patient advocacy organization serving the 8,000,000 American women living with heart disease. In addition, Celestial Seasonings will donate up to $100,000 as a part of a Red Dress pin offer featured on 17 million tea boxes. (So buy LOTS of Celestial Seasonings, ladies!)
The Human Rights Campaign is celebrating the New Year with the release of its “Marc Jacobs Hearts HRC Tee,” designed exclusively for the Human Rights Campaign by famed style-maker Marc Jacobs. Each year, Marc Jacobs chooses one worthy cause to promote, and the HRC is this year's honoree.
Made of ultra-soft 100 percent combed ringspun jersey cotton, this lightweight, elegant T-shirt is garment washed, so it won't shrink. Unisex cut available in: White, Black, Silver & Pink. Sizes: Small through XX-Large. Women's cut available in: White, Black & Pink. Sizes: Small through X-Large. All proceeds from the $38.00 Tee go directly to HRC’s efforts to end discrimination against GLBT Americans.

Gilles, a French Bulldog is one socially conscious pup. Her company, SOCOCO is a "a call to my canine comrades to stand proudly on all four legs and prove that even small companions can make a big difference. "
How, you ask?
The purchase of every SOCOCO charm supports the local South African artisans who handcrafted it. Additionally, the company donates a portion of the profits generated by the sale of each charm to help provide shelter, healthcare and love to children orphaned by AIDS in South Africa at the Bapumelele Children's Home.
All SOCOCO charms are hand crafted in Cape Town, South Africa by local artisans out of galvanized steel wire and glass beads. Each one of a kind SOCOCO charm is as unique as the artisan that dotingly crafts it. The charms are hand sewn onto cards that open to reveal the story behind our products as told by Gilles (Pint-sized President / CEO / Canine).

I do feel guilty going about my daily business while all of the poor people (pun unintended, but appropriate) down south are suffering.
Here are some reputable organizations accepting donations for the victims:
Tonight have black tie chairty event at the Waldorf; Unhappy with hair, complexion and wardrobe choice.
Last night attended the Robin Hood Foundation Benefit Celebration. Here is my report from the field:
Food = would rather be eating a burrito
Goody bag = Kheils products and Robin Hood tee shirt
Date = drunk (but dashing, nonetheless)
Decor = dance club circa 1982
Celeb sightings: 6 (Tiki Barber, Mariah Carey, Gwenyth Paltrow, Brian Williams, Mary J. Blige, Patti LaBelle)
Highlights: "Weekend Update" with Tina Fey; boss' boyfriend won spa package and gave it to moi!, was perfectly acceptable to drink on work night
Went with Andrea to charity beauty sale today hosted by Meredith and spent $65 on beauty products that were $1 a piece.
What a girl will do in the name of philanthropy.
