that these boots will probably be the most divisive I ever post, but I am throwing caution to the wind.
Kate Spade "Alaska" tan boot. On sale at DSW for oodles off the original price (and at Bluefly) and MUCH cuter in person.
They are cute-ugly, non? And the yellow pom pom, totally adorable? (Sense my hesitation...)

Wow. I'd better get started.
A few days back I posted some Pretty Flats I was fond of, and the Lovely Rachel inquired: "What would you wear them with?"
Well Rachel, I thought you'd never ask!
How about with shorts:
or bermudas:
or with jeans, like Elle:
or with a mini-dress like Kate:
or with just about anything like Kate and Sienna:
or with a pretty dress?
But more importantly, what would you wear them with?
You'll recall that Joy and I both bought the Steve Madden Nadine shoes in Rust. What I failed to mention was that the shoes didn't exactly fit us perfectly when we bought them.
They didn't have half sizes, and the 8 was way too big for me, so I got a 7, which was a wee bit tight.
The 6 was too big on Joy, so she got a 5, which was a wee bit tight.
We didn't care though, because we thought they were so damn cute.
We made every effort to stretch them out:
This is my fail-safe method to stretch out shoes:
1. Wear athletic socks with your new shoes around the house
2. Smile.
Joy found this process grueling.
The next morning, we thought were confident that our shoes were fully stretched and ready to go. We left for brunch, both in our Nadines.
Here is how the conversation went:
Joy: I'm so hungry.
Me: I know, me too. And I need some coffee. My feet hurt a little bit.
Joy: I know, mine do too, but I think they just need to be broken in a little bit more. They are so cute, it will be fine.
Me: Yeah, definitely. Is Bar Tabac okay?
Joy: Yes, perfect. I think my heel might be starting to bleed a little. My feet are probably just really dry.
Me: Yeah, I think I am getting a little blister or something. But its okay. If I had a band aid, I'd be fine. I love these shoes.
Joy: I know me too. What are you going to have to eat?
Beth: Probably eggs benedict - the usual. Its really not the heel that hurts to much as my big and little toe.
Joy: Yeah, exactly, me too. I'm starting to limp a little.
Beth: Don't be a baby, you just have to be persistent.
Joy: You're right. I think I might put my flip flops on.
Beth: Okay, yeah. Maybe I'll put my other shoes on too. These are perfect for just a short walk, you wouldn't really want to wear them around all day though.
Joy: You are not going to return them...are you?
Beth: NO way, they are so adorable. I love them!
Joy: Me too! They were such a good purchase.
Beth: I think they are my new favorite shoes.
And then we ate.
A night at Floyd's:
Lisa - drink in hand - BEFORE I'd taken 2734930473 pictures of her
...and Lisa after I'd taken 2734930473 pictures of her (not cool, Lisa!)
After a hard week at work, it is important to consume alcohol to reset your equilibrium. (Is that how you spell equilibrium? I have no idea.)
I couldn't figure out what the heck to do with my hair. (So I attempted to revive the side pony tail, as usual.)
Lisa decided to push Buster's nose, which is what she does when she is feeling feisty.
Then she pushed my nose (NOT cool, Lisa!)
I said "intercourse" and it made Lisa laugh (Naughty!)
This lady liked my shoes...
...so I let her put them on.
Sharing is good!
Sometimes you feel completely hopeless. The sky is gray and you can't imagine how you are going to get through another day.
You put on your best dress and grab your favorite handbag. You leave the house / loft / apartment / co-op feeling like a million bucks, confident, beautiful, full of energy. And you return home deflated, sad, defeated.
You search high and low for that which will make you happy, to no avail.
You become envious of what everyone else has, and the ease with which they manage to find it.
And then sometimes, without even trying, when you least expect it, the clouds just seem to part. The sky clears up. The rains stops. You are able to put away the cookie dough. And it just happens. When you are least prepared. Wearing your Nick and Noras PJs. Or your Old Navy sweats. Hair in a side pony tail. Pretending to revive the look.
You feel as though you are destined to spend the rest of your life alone and unhappy.
All of a sudden, you have multiple suitors competing for your attention. What once seemed like a drought, is now a rainforest. A rainforest of possibility.
Everywhere you turn, there is opportunity. Desire. Hope. Suddenly everything that seemed so right before, now seems so clearly wrong.
This is no Urban Legend. Dispel your disbelief for a moment.
There I was. In my sloppiest outfit. A little "damp" from the humidity. Hair in a side pony tail. When my luck started to take a turn. A turn for the better. Without warning. Without preparation. Without even time for an emergency call to Joy for advice.
I found these:
[TARGET 24.99]...
and this...
[Here is a close up so you can see how perfectly purple it is]
You realize that the wait was completely worth it. [This is a Franco Sarto Bag. It cost me $19.99 at DSW].
Amidst all of the choices, there is excitement, but also confusion. And then, you find it. You find The One. Everything becomes clear as night [or is it day? well, no matter. Things get clear, that's the point].
It might be early. People might say its too fast, too soon. You aren't thinking it through. But you KNOW, in your heart, its the right thing.
Everyone, I'd like you to meet My New Favorite Shoes. New Favorite Shoes, I'd like you to meet Everyone.
I think you'll get along swimmingly.
When it's right, you just know.
In the end, I loved many. But I only gave my foot to only one. (Okay, one or two, but whatever, cut me some slack, I'm trying to be L-I-T-E-R-A-R-Y).
Green peep toes
yellow t-straps
vintage "reptile" peep toes (gift from joy)
Wedges by Carlos Santana
pink goodness that makes my heart melt
[forgive me, i feel the need to photograph EVERYTHING with my new digital camera]
This month's In Style has me itching to spend some money on accessories:
Like ballet flats from aeropostale (these are $20!)...
...this adorable snakeskin clutch from Express...
...this Cynthia Rowley number...
...a fedora (or 8)...
...some frames that make me feel cool (and not nerdy - Andrea knows what I mean)...
...and this little green bag that inspires me to make a date for cappucino.
After very brief visits to Urban Outfitters last week and Zara and the Gap last night, I was inspired to re-visit my fall clothing shopping list.
A few color inspirations:
Shoes:
-Cowboy boots
-clog / moccasin type shoes for bumming around
-cute peep toe heels to be worn with jeans
- New Ugg like for cold, snowy weather
-Black knee-high boots for fancy / sexy
Bags:
-big number in fab color that I can throw a lot of stuff into
-maybe some cool vintage finds in the EV or Williamsburg [UPDATE: 9/1/05: went to EV last weekend was unsuccessful in locating; perhaps W-Burg will be more fruitful]
Tops:
-long sleeve tees and layering numbers
- a few sweaters that don't make me look chunky
-a few blazers / cropped jackets in cool colors / patterns [UPDATE 9/1/05: Zara and Urban Outfitters are promising]
-camis [UPDATE 9/1/05: Express is having a sale and they have some really cute camis that are $14.50 a piece; will pick up one or three tonight after Grizzly Man]
-coat (preferably yellow or green) [UPDATE 9/1/05: have also become obsessed with idea of grey coat, navy coat [from Diane T?] and leather bomber jacket; thus want 5 coats for fall/winter 2005; justifying based on: fall/winter is very cold in NYC, practically live in coats all season; plus do not want other people to get sick of looking at my same coat every day - being benevolent]
Bottoms:
-jeans, jeans, jeans
-[ADDED 9/1/05] cropped pants in tweed, herringbone, etc, to be worn with boots and peep toe heels
-work stuff (pants, etc) [UPDATE 9/1/05: Definitely need some new work "bottoms"...and tops; need work stuff in general, or need to convince leading investment bank to change wardrobe policy to: "casual"]
Accessories: [ADDED 9/1/05]
-fedora
-more big chunky scarves, yes i have a million, but see justification for "coat" above
-colorful tights (see scrapbook)
[ps: I'm not getting Lucky today after all]
ISO: perfect pair of cowboy boots (and for the record, I was looking before I read Thursday Styles)
Today:
Bought Fab Yellow Pumps and cleaned apartment top to bottom
Don't you just love when you find something so perfect that you can't stop staring at it? That is how I feel about my New Yellow Open-Toe Flats from Zara. [UPDATE 5/30/05: no longer in honeymoon stage. want to return shoes]
Today I am thinking about how I'd like to buy the Perfect Green Heels. So that is what I will do after work. [UPDATE 6/1/05: STILL unable to find]
I didn't get a very good night's sleep last night because I was up all night thinking about the Dr. Scholl's shoes I want and which color to get. As I was still undecided this morning. I brought the issue to my Panel of Experts. Here is what they had to say:
Joy: They have a little of an orthopedic look but could be cute with the right outfits. seem good for walking to work.
Me: Okay, what color tho? (I don't think they will look ortho on me b/c I am sort of cute)
Joy: I like the tan or if they have white. no bright color.
Kelly: I'll bet you're getting pink! I like green or black, but I think the red and pink are pretty kicky too.
Lisa: I would get a darker color. The lighter ones will get dirty really quickly especially if you are planning to wear them often.
I haven't heard back from Andrea yet, but I am sure she'd be supportive of my decision. I am getting the tan (I think.)
UPDATE:
Andrea just called in from the Shake Shack in Madison Square Park (Thank Goodness, I was beginning to worry) and said her vote is for pink, that she would probably get black and that tan looks like Jesus sandles.
So I said to Kelly, "Andrea thinks the shoes look like Jesus sandles" and Kelly said, "well they do"
Then I spoke to Joy and she said "I don't think so but I see why she says that..more earthy or something. I don't think they will look like jesus sandles on you. (Me: True, Jesus didn't have a red pedicure and cute feet....or did he?) Joy: can you try them on anywhere to see for sure? Well, Zappos has free shipping and free return shipping, so you won't lose any money if you order them and then don't like the color. I say you go with your first instinct.
I can't remember what my first instinct was anymore.
This is really stressful.
[UPDATE 6/1/05: never ended up buying these shoes. and after all that]
