Lately, I am having a bit of my own Omnivore's Dilemma, but I couldn't resist posting about the adorable lobster and clam-ware from Plum Party
And while we are on the subject, kudos to Whole Foods, which recently decided to stop selling live lobsters stating, "We place as much emphasis on the importance of humane treatment and quality of life for all animals as we do on the expectations for quality and flavor" (See an interesting argument against Whole Foods' ban on Trevor Corson's blog, the Secret Life of Lobsters)
I am absolutely in love with Mahar Drygoods, vintage and artisan-crafted goodies for kids.
Do us both a favor and visit a.s.a.p.

Obsessive simplicity, half-cocked humor, and individual style are the driving forces that reflect the Stella Neptune label. The name Stella Neptune is the DJ name of the principal designer, Eva Kisevalter. For more than 15 years, Eva's alter ego-- "Intergalactic Soul Sister" Stella Neptune has DJ'd the world over, forging that same individual style into her DJ persona.
Pink Heather, Heaven of Dress for Petites, has a romantic and carefree atmosphere where pint-sized shoppers can find unique 60's retro Lolita and 70's Bohemian style vintage dresses with ease. It also offers designer inspired hand-made pieces that are modern, classy, eccentric and sexy. Founder, Heather Yau, a petite lady herself, always dreamt of having a specialty dress store where she could freely shop petite size dresses she adores. And now she does -- so grab your wallets, petite shoppers!
UPDATE....OhYIPES! It just came to my attention that my BFF Oh Joy posted about Rosanna yesterday. I was so swamped at worked I had little time for blog-surfing. Damn corporate America! Just goes to show you, it's like one mind!
I learned about Rosanna from Creature Comforts and now I'm totally hooked.
I want to buy the whole company, but for now I'll settle for: Tea's Me, Cupcake, Girls A Go Go and Chandeliers.

Gilles, a French Bulldog is one socially conscious pup. Her company, SOCOCO is a "a call to my canine comrades to stand proudly on all four legs and prove that even small companions can make a big difference. "
How, you ask?
The purchase of every SOCOCO charm supports the local South African artisans who handcrafted it. Additionally, the company donates a portion of the profits generated by the sale of each charm to help provide shelter, healthcare and love to children orphaned by AIDS in South Africa at the Bapumelele Children's Home.
All SOCOCO charms are hand crafted in Cape Town, South Africa by local artisans out of galvanized steel wire and glass beads. Each one of a kind SOCOCO charm is as unique as the artisan that dotingly crafts it. The charms are hand sewn onto cards that open to reveal the story behind our products as told by Gilles (Pint-sized President / CEO / Canine).

And here it is in all of its splendor:
[It will make its debut at Henry Hopmann's First Birthday party. I'll try to get some shots of it In Action.]
My friend (and fellow-pug Mom) Lisa turned me on to Glam, a great site "presenting the best in fashion and beauty."
I definitely encourage everyone to stop by, explore a bit (a bunch!) and take their "What's your trademark style" quiz. It's mucho fun. They even make recommendations based on your results!
My trademark style? I thought you'd never ask!
"Eclectic: You’re a bit quirky and always out for an element of surprise with your style, mixing up retro and vintage elements with contemporary bohemian styles. Breezy fabrics, flowing cuts, and unique accessories help you achieve an enviably original and diverse appearance every day. You fashion maverick, you. "
[dead on]
And you know I love this Antik Batik bag they suggested for me.
[You should always buy things when people go to the trouble of suggesting them for you, its rude not to!]
Yesterday was the Atlantic Antic, a big street fair that takes place on Atlantic Ave.
Joy and I made a quick stop after an early brunch and here's what we found:
Booths filled with lots of goodness, like homewares, clothes and jewelry...
...and food...
(ony of my favorite restaurants, Rice, was serving corn, iced tea and other deliciousness)
Cupcakes from Downtown Atlantic:
YUM. (I bought one, so total for the weekend = 2 cupcakes. Not bad.)
*Downtown Atlantic is located at: 364 Atlantic Avenue, 718-852-9945
We stopped into Sir, home of handmade frocks and lots of cool jewelry and shoes:
*Sir is located at: 360 Atlantic Avenue, 718-643-6877
The we went to Legacy, which I mentioned last week:
*Legacy is located at: 362 Atlantic Avenue, 718-403-0090
Then we stopped by the Zoe Papers booth:
*Zoe Papers is located at: 315 Atlantic Avenue, 718-625-5797
And then to the Layla booth:
Layla has incredible homewares, jewelry and clothing imported from India.
*Layla is located at: 86 Hoyt Street, 718-222-1933
The Maleeka booth was our next stop:
Maleeka also has beautiful clothing, shoes, homewares and jewelry, primarily imported from Pakistan.
*Maleeka is located at: 327 Atlantic Avenue, 718-596-0991
Our final stop was Brooklyn Industries where I found a sweatshirt I HAVE to have (not pictured):
Brooklyn Industries is located at: 100 Smith Street, (718) 596-3986 (other locations listed on their website)
It was a productive weekend, indeed.
First, I went to the San Gennaro festival with my friend Zara and her friend Eric.
In case you aren't familiar with the festival, here is a little blurb from the San Gennaro website:
"Presented annually since 1996 by Figli di San Gennaro, Inc., a not-for-profit organization, this year’s Feast will again bring more than 1 million people to the streets of Little Italy in the annual salute to the Patron Saint of Naples. The street festivities – including parades, entertainment, food stands and a cannoli-eating contest – are capped on September 19th with a celebratory Mass and candlelit procession as the Statue of the Saint is carried from its permanent home in Most Precious Blood Church on Mulberry Street."
Except for the huge crowds, it is my idea of heaven. You are expected to eat a lot of food involving "fried" and "cheese." And I did. YUM.
Next, I went to Cupcake Cafe, because weekend calories don't count (duh!):
You can find Cupcake Cafe at 522 9th Avenue and 18 West 18th Street. Cupcake Cafe probably has the prettiest cupcakes in the city, but they are certainly not the best (I am a Baked NYC /Magnolia gal, myself).
10 lbs heavier, I met up with Joy, who made an impromptu visit to the city. We went shopping for wedding dresses. (We were unsuccessful, but we had fun, nonetheless).
This dress was my favorite, because it was very couture-looking.
And this is the Big Poofy Number that we will always refer to as The One That Got Away:
(Just Kidding, Bob!)
Next we went bridesmaid dress shopping at Jenny Yoo. She has stores in Chicago, New York and LA. If you are getting married, or if you are a bridesmaid (especially!), I highly recommend that you pay Jenny a visit. She has absolutely gorgeous, but simple and very elegant dresses in every style and color you can imagine.
After all of this shopping, we were completely dehydrated. So we stopped at the Union Square Green Market for some cider. (I heart Fall).
(I think the cider guy was hitting on us a little).
When Joy saw the new shoes I got from Steve Madden, she had to have a pair, so we headed back downtown to pick up the Nadine's in Rust for her, too.
(After a long day, it was time for a relaxing meal at my favorite place, Pacifico:
YUM.
DOUBLE YUM.
I'VE DIED AND GONE TO HEAVEN!
Joy was so excited about our Nachos that she practically ate the whole plate herself. Whatever Joy.
Then we went home...
...and stretched out our shoes with athletic socks (in our PJ pants.)
Now THIS is Just My Cup of Tea:
The New York Vintage Fashion & Antique Textile Show & Sale has clothes and accessories from the 19th and 20th centuries. Bring in this mention to have $5 of the $15 admission donated to the victims of Hurricane Katrina through the American Red Cross.
When: 9/23 (11am-7pm) and 9/24 (11am-6pm).
Where: New Yorker Hotel, 481 Eighth Ave., at 34th St., 718-278-3064.
Sometimes you feel completely hopeless. The sky is gray and you can't imagine how you are going to get through another day.
You put on your best dress and grab your favorite handbag. You leave the house / loft / apartment / co-op feeling like a million bucks, confident, beautiful, full of energy. And you return home deflated, sad, defeated.
You search high and low for that which will make you happy, to no avail.
You become envious of what everyone else has, and the ease with which they manage to find it.
And then sometimes, without even trying, when you least expect it, the clouds just seem to part. The sky clears up. The rains stops. You are able to put away the cookie dough. And it just happens. When you are least prepared. Wearing your Nick and Noras PJs. Or your Old Navy sweats. Hair in a side pony tail. Pretending to revive the look.
You feel as though you are destined to spend the rest of your life alone and unhappy.
All of a sudden, you have multiple suitors competing for your attention. What once seemed like a drought, is now a rainforest. A rainforest of possibility.
Everywhere you turn, there is opportunity. Desire. Hope. Suddenly everything that seemed so right before, now seems so clearly wrong.
This is no Urban Legend. Dispel your disbelief for a moment.
There I was. In my sloppiest outfit. A little "damp" from the humidity. Hair in a side pony tail. When my luck started to take a turn. A turn for the better. Without warning. Without preparation. Without even time for an emergency call to Joy for advice.
I found these:
[TARGET 24.99]...
and this...
[Here is a close up so you can see how perfectly purple it is]
You realize that the wait was completely worth it. [This is a Franco Sarto Bag. It cost me $19.99 at DSW].
Amidst all of the choices, there is excitement, but also confusion. And then, you find it. You find The One. Everything becomes clear as night [or is it day? well, no matter. Things get clear, that's the point].
It might be early. People might say its too fast, too soon. You aren't thinking it through. But you KNOW, in your heart, its the right thing.
Everyone, I'd like you to meet My New Favorite Shoes. New Favorite Shoes, I'd like you to meet Everyone.
I think you'll get along swimmingly.
When it's right, you just know.
In the end, I loved many. But I only gave my foot to only one. (Okay, one or two, but whatever, cut me some slack, I'm trying to be L-I-T-E-R-A-R-Y).
This month's In Style has me itching to spend some money on accessories:
Like ballet flats from aeropostale (these are $20!)...
...this adorable snakeskin clutch from Express...
...this Cynthia Rowley number...
...a fedora (or 8)...
...some frames that make me feel cool (and not nerdy - Andrea knows what I mean)...
...and this little green bag that inspires me to make a date for cappucino.
It has been a goal of mine to explore the nooks and crannies of all of the neighborhoods in NYC over time. So I decided to start today and I am sharing the fruits of my labor with you!
Edition 1 takes us to the Cobble Hill / Carroll Gardens Area (because home is where the heart is).
Here's a handy map to get us started:
First stop: Brooklyn Collective Artisan Gallery
Where: 198 Columbia Street between Sacket and DeGraw
Why: The best-of-grandma's-attic atmosphere, incredibly cool finds and very friendly salespeople
As seen in: Nylon
Here's what you'll see:
Bonus Points: It's their one-year anniversary and Brooklyn Collective is having a party. Here's the invite:
Tell them you heard about it here and I just might buy you a margarita!
Second Stop: Bopkat Vintage
Where: 117 Union Street between Columbia and Van Brunt Street
Why: Very cool vintage finds, including vintage postcards and shoes
Why Not: Rude salesperson (owner?) but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt
Here's what you'll see:
Third Stop: Union Max
Where: Union between Columbia and Hicks
Why: Super cool vintage beads, vintage photographs and postcards and old books
Here's what you'll see:
Fourth Stop: Little Luna
Where: 6 Cheever Place (at the corner of Kane)
Why: Vintage postcards, stamps, photographs, jewelry, tea cups and more
Why else: super dog friendly and aiding in the Katrina rescue efforts
Here's what you'll see:
...and when all is said and done, hit Naidre's for a smoothie...or a cupcake.
Where: Henry Street b/w Sacket and Union
Why: Delicious home cookin, in a home-y atmosphere
Consider yourself warned: they don't take plastic
Could someone please tell me: Who was the genuis that decided to update the Gap and Old Navy websites right at the start of the fall shopping season? And further, as Joy pointed out, why wouldn't they leave the old sites up until the the process of building the new the sites is complete?

[...and the same message from Old Navy.com]
Last week I was able to access the new sites for about 20 minutes for a special sneak preview and to be honest, they didn't seem that much different from the old sites.
